How are FAB members chosen, and how long do they serve?
Members are elected to represent a particular group of supporters rather than appointed by the club. The original board was voted in at the meeting of 9 May 2024, after the terms of reference had been agreed with the supporters who attended the first two open meetings.
Terms were set in the terms of reference at two years initially, with provision from 2026 for members to serve up to three terms; the minutes of 9 June 2026 record the discussion of what happens at the end of a term, and the club's view that serving four or more terms would start to look like an ownership situation. The Regulator's guidance published in July 2026 then fixed the national standard at three-year terms with a maximum of three, which matched what Barnsley already had (minutes of 4 August 2026).
Vacancies are advertised to supporters, most recently on the BBS fans' forum and through the FAB's own channels. When four seats were advertised in mid-2026 only one application was received, which is how Pete Harrison came to join as the representative for supporters living away. The club asked the FAB to hold wider recruitment until the Regulator's guidance was published so that the structure could follow it. Two seats remain open at the time of writing; if you would like to be considered, use the Submit form and say which group you would represent.
