Why is it so dark outside the West Stand after evening games, and what is happening with the floodlights?

Two separate things. The floodlights have been replaced: the old towers and halogen lamps were reaching the end of their life, and new LED units mounted on the stands give better light levels, cut energy use and reduce light pollution for neighbours (minutes of 9 June 2026). The new system meets the higher lux standard required at Championship level, in case of promotion, and lighting levels are tested and reported to the EFL in four-metre sections of the pitch because broadcasters can claw back revenue if minimum standards are not met. The old towers also carry telecoms equipment, cabling and security cameras, so removing them is not simple; the club hopes to have them down by summer 2027 (minutes of 8 September 2026).

General lighting around the ground is a different problem. The area outside the West Stand has been unusually dark because the street lights on Grove Street are temporarily out during nearby housing works, and those lights used to spill useful light onto the West Stand approach. Supporters also reported lights out in the West Stand uncovered toilets. The club is installing about £10,000 of additional lighting around the West and East Stands. If you notice a dark or unlit area, tell the FAB and it will be passed on.

A post-goal light show is not viable, because light shows need advance notice so that supporters sensitive to flashing lights can move to the concourse; a pre-match show is possible in principle. The floodlights were funded from the council's capital grant, alongside the other stadium works described in the answer on the council grant.
