What is the position on safe standing at Oakwell?
Safe standing has been in place since the 2025/26 season. The club first set out its plans at the May 2024 meeting: rail seating in block OR1 of the Norman Rimmington South Stand (the Ponty End) and in block NS1 of the Barry Murphy North Stand for visiting supporters, with the Safety Advisory Group having approved the process and the application with the Sports Grounds Safety Authority. Adding more safe standing later would need a fresh application, but the process should be quicker the second time.
The FAB was formally consulted in November 2024: 500 rail seats in OR1 from front to back, a reciprocal 500 in the away end, and sight-line work to make sure the view from the disabled area was not compromised. Season ticket holders in the affected seats were told when they bought their tickets that the area was planned for safe standing. The barriers were installed in early April 2025 and tested before being passed as safe (minutes of 18 March 2025). Some confusion among supporters was raised with the club in April 2025; the club's position was that the change had been communicated by email, newsletter and on the ticketing site, and that a message is shown when buying seats in OR1.
